About the Role

Wild Ivory Registered Nurse Birth Coaches are private practice RN's with specialized training and experience in labor and delivery. They provide clients with individualized consultation, support and nursing services during pregnancy and birth.

Services include;
-consultation throughout pregnancy, labor and birth
-health history taking
-assessments, care planning, implementation of interventions and evaluation of care
-advocacy
-compassion and encouragement
-teaching
-referrals
-home visits
-collaboration with clients in creating an individualized birth preferences guide
-in-home early labor assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and follow-up
-direction for timing of transfer to planned birth place
-presence and advocacy during active labor and birth at the client’s chosen place of birth
Wild Ivory Birth Coaches do not provide nursing, medical or midwifery care for women in active labor or birth*
-emotional support and non-medicinal physical comfort measures during labor and birth
-provision of scholarly, evidenced-based knowledge throughout pregnancy and during the birth experience, enabling families to make informed decisions
-collaboration and communication with the client’s health care team
-breastfeeding teaching and support
-knowledge and experience to identify and respond to emergency situations
-provision of luxury perks such as a nutritious meal for families post birth and other celebratory bonuses!

Requirements

-BScN, RN in province of nursing practice

-current registration with the Nursing Regulatory College of their province

-3+ years of nursing labor and delivery experience

-current BLS certification, including infant

-neonatal resuscitation certification

-fetal health surveillance certification

-private practice designation with provincial college (Wild Ivory will help you to obtain)

-doula training an asset

-lactation consultant certification an asset

-prenatal educator training an asset

Wild Ivory Registered Nurse Birth Coaches should be objective practitioners who support the informed choice of each family, without judgement. They should be comfortable supporting families who choose to birth naturally, without analgesia, but also accept and support any choices families make during the birth process. Wild Ivory RN Birth Coaches understand their role, maintain their scope of practice and work together with families’ health care teams to promote a positive and safe birth experience.

Wild Ivory Registered Nurse Birth Coaches manage and deliver client care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. They apply critical thinking skills to resolve problems and communicate appropriately with the client’s health care team.

Wild Ivory Registered Nurse Birth Coaches follow provincial regulatory guidelines, code of ethics and standards of practice. They adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by Wild Ivory Inc.
