About the Role

Wild Ivory Postpartum Coaches are private practice Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses with specialized post-birth knowledge and experience. They provide in-home nursing consultations, teaching, support and advocacy for new parents.

Services include:
-maternal and newborn physical assessments
-health history taking
-assessments, care planning, implementation of interventions and evaluation of care
-assessment of postpartum bleeding, infection, pain, healing, emotional well-being and coping of the family
-assessment of newborn including head-to-toe checks, umbilical cord care, newborn jaundice, feeding, alert/sleep cycles
-advocacy
-compassion and encouragement
-teaching
-referrals
-home visits
-emotional support and non-medicinal physical comfort measures post birth
-provision of scholarly, evidenced-based knowledge, enabling families to make informed decisions
-collaboration and communication with the client’s health care team
-teaching and demonstration of mother care and baby care
-postpartum depression and anxiety screening and referral
-post birth trauma and mental health assessment and referral
-breastfeeding teaching, support and referral
-collaboration with clients in developing baby feeding plans
-Interaction with the family’s support networks, prompting ways to best support clients post birth
-knowledge and experience to identify and respond to emergency situations

Requirements

-RN or LPN in province of nursing practice

-current registration with the Nursing Regulatory College of their province

-3+ years of nursing postpartum or community health experience

-current BLS certification, including infant

-private practice designation with provincial college (Wild Ivory will help you to obtain)

-doula training an asset

-lactation consultant certification an asset

-prenatal educator training an asset

Wild Ivory Postpartum Coaches manage and deliver client care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. They apply critical thinking skills to resolve problems and communicate appropriately with the client’s health care team.

Wild Ivory Postpartum Coaches follow provincial regulatory guidelines, code of ethics and standards of practice. They adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by Wild Ivory Inc.
